“Sooner or later all the people of the world will have to discover a way to live together in peace.” MLK
The MLK quote below may be the answer to Martin Luther King's vision of people finally living together in a sustainable peace.
“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.
"True Peace is not merely the absence of tensions; It is the presence of Justice" MLK
Within this context, there could be no greater rationale for achieving the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030. This peaceful pathway will be as close as humans can get to achieving global ‘liberty and justice for all’ with the intent of conflict prevention. It has the bonus of preventing many other human security threats (infectious diseases and an array of environmental problems).
Buying global peace may be the only available and realistic option that will not immediately require the creation of a world government capable of effectively enforcing the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Its goal after the horrors of World War II was to prevent the next world war. The one we may now be coming.
Funding the SDGs is the equivalent of financing the “Laws of Nature and Nature’s God” without establishing a global government with police power and a global justice system to ensure it.
We can pay now in dollars and cents, or we can pay dearly later in lost lives, endless human suffering, and accelerating environmental destruction.
