Below are four fundamental principles (self-evident truths) that I’m convinced
will determine the future of humanity. Followed by a solution to our Truth decay and
declining trust in institutions (and each other) as a first step off this escalator to accelerating
down into chaos.
“Everything is connected, everything is interdependent, so everything is vulnerable.... And that’s why this has to be a more than whole of government, a more than whole of nation [effort]. It really has to be a global effort....” Jen Easterly. CISA director. Oct. 29, 2021. [the Cyber and Infrastructure Security Agency is our nation’s newest federal agency established by the Trump Administration in 2018]. “A huge gamma-ray burst erupted 2 billion years ago. It hit Earth’s upper atmosphere last year”... “showing how even faraway events can influence Earth.” Washington Post, Science section Nov. 21, 2023.
The best solution to our era of increasing Truth decay and loss of trust in our institutions is understanding Neil deGrasse Tyson’s assertion there are 3 types of Truth:
These can explain the growing polarization and stiff resistance
to the urgent changes needed.
The 1st is our personal truth. The God we believe in, or not. Nearly everyone has a different personal
truth.
The 2nd is our political truth. The concepts and ideas have we’ve grown up
with, learned, or heard so many times from people we trust, love, and admire,
that they must be true. Groups of people
usually have conflicting political truths.
The last is objective truths. These truths are backed by empirical evidence
-acquired by direct observation, experimentation, or experience – based on real
world data (observed, measured, and verified by one’s senses or scientific
tools/method.
Tyson asserted when two clearly objective minds disagree
…there is only possible three outcomes.
1. I’m right. You’re wrong.
2. Your right and I’m wrong. 3. We
are both wrong. Let’s find the answer!
Recently he suggested if an argument lasts more than 5
minutes... both people are wrong. 😉
And I’m certain that if two groups are warring for nearly a 1000
years... both are wrong.
